Fishes of the Maldives 1.1

This resource provides detailed information on 18 species of Sharks, 17 species of Rays, and 704 species of Bony Fishes. It includes the use of symbols as an identification guide to families and highlights characteristic marks, colors, shapes, and features for species differentiation. The photographs are primarily captured in the Maldives to offer a comprehensive visual representation.

The guide also emphasizes regional differences between Indian Ocean and Pacific sibling species when relevant. Sightings maps for Sharks and Rays are provided, alongside the option to search by common or scientific name. Furthermore, the top 200+ common names have been translated into Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, and Japanese.

Users have the additional functionality to record, log, and download their sightings as a CSV file. Moreover, there is an opportunity to contribute to the Zebra Shark sightings project, enhancing collaborative research efforts in marine conservation.
